204 ruger

Ian,

What kind of luck are you having with the factory SPS Varmint stock? I bought one fairly cheap and I think it was because it shot like crap. The guy free floated it and bedded it (did not pillar bed it just skim). I got it and it would shoot 2"-3" groups off bags. I picked up an HS precision police take off and the groups dropped to an inch. I just got rick to bed it and now it is shooting just under an inch fairly consistently. I have a few hundred rounds down the pipe and if they like to foul as you say I should give her a quick clean and see if it tightens up any. but either way just under an inch is not too bad.

I have been using starting loads of Varget with 30gr and 40gr Bergers. Have not chrony'd them yet but they are plenty enough for gophers.

Here is my .204

I personally do nothing to the SPS Varmints to make them shoot better... I just shoot em. I actualy like the stock. With factory hornady ammo, I can get an inch. With my reloads, I get about .5-.75 MOA fairly consistently.

I have no doubt that bedding and tuning the trigger would make a difference.

Hey Potty
Just got back from the range, with my newest acquisition a Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless 204, picked up a box of Hornandy 32gr. Vmax and just to let you know... 5 shots covered by a dime at 100 yds. I put on a Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 for now and it does the trick. And to tell you the truth, I can't even shoot! I'm sure that someone more proficient would put them into one ragged hole. So if you're still looking for a rifle, just to let you know the Tikka T3 is the one. I purchased my equipment through Gagnon Sports in Oshawa and more than happy with my purchase! Those guys (and gals) are great to deal with!
Hope this helps ... keep your eye on the target and then watch it implode!
Regards
Just one shot!
