Are there any guns comparable to a Sako in a .204 but with a lighter barrel. I have a ruger heavy barrel (see avatar) and its a heavyweight.

I agree with Win/64.

However, even the "midrange to superior quality" manufacturers are using composite materials in lieu of metal for certain components.

How do you define quality and what are you willing to pay? A "nice-to-look-at" rifle may not have a reputation for shooting well, while an "ugly-as-a-turnip" rifle may print very respectable groups out of the box. Find one that has both those qualities (looks and performance) and you end up in the custom-built price range, where Cooper (among others) lives.

I'm quite happy with my CZ 527 American in .204.

I had been on a waiting list for a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in .204 (new for 2008) for over a year, but got tired of waiting and it looks unlikely that there will be any more of those in Canada until sometime in 2009. (A few did come in).

The Ruger M77 Mark II All Weather Ultra Light is another option.

Last year I bought a CZ American in 204 so far seems to be a great little gun. The first load I tried using H4895 and 35 grain Bergers shot less than inch and I left it at that.

When I was shopping for a 204 a darn near bought a Model 7 CDL classic what a beautiful little gun.

But I bought the CZ and am very pleased with it so far. Just love that set trigger.

Im not able to answer this intelligently. I mainly buy by relative mid range price as long as the velocity is high and the ergonomics are good.:dancingbanana:
