I have a Gonic Arms 50 cal. inline muzzleloader that uses the #11 caps. I am experiencing very inconsistent ignition and would like to convert it to a 209 primer system.
Gonic Arms is no longer in business and this model was in production before the 209 systems became commonplace.
Are there any conversion kits on the market that would work in this gun?
I was thinking if the threads on a conversion were the same as the threads on the existing #11 nipples I could have the end of my striker machined to fire the 209 primers.
Any suggestions please.

Maybe this could end up being kinda pricey. have you considered selling your gonic or using a different brand of #11 cap. possibly trade your rifle in on something that uses 209's.

Have you tried the new Remington caps? They are hotter than the old ones and work perfectly in my Gonic, they are even better than the RWS caps I tried which were supposed to be great.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I will look around for the Remington caps but I am not ruling out getting a different gun either if this one will be too costly or impossible to improve.

Are the musket caps hotter than the #11 caps?

Something else I should have mentioned in my first post; often, the issue isn't the cap that doesn't ignite the powder, it is that the cap doesn't fire at all. If I recock the gun and try again, the cap will generally pop. It is making me believe that possibly the firing pin spring is weak. It seems like the energy of the striker is used up by pushing on the cap and fully seating it but doesn't have enough push left to fire it. By recocking, it will fire.
What would be the specs on a replacement spring?

souinds like it could also be a case of a mushroomed nipple head. my old cva kentucky had the same problem. the cap can't seat properly, the first fall of the hammer drives it on the nipple, and the second fires it. since replacing my nipple i had no such problems
