209M primers vs. 209 primers

What would the consequences be of using 209M primers in an application that calls for 209 primers?

I bought a brick of CCI primers at LeBaron about a month ago. I haven't used any yet but I just noticed yesterday that they are 209M and not just regular 209. I know there are loads that call for Magnum primers but what would happen if I used them where just a regular 209 was called for?

I'm sure I'll use them up eventually but if I don't have to buy more right now then I'd rather not.

Thanks,

Dave

Are you sure they are not Match primers? You can check their website to make sure.
Uh, no, the "M" stands for magnum and are meant for heavier loads.

If you Google cci 209m primers you'll find assorted threads discussing interchangeability. Personally, I wouldn't do it unless I had a recipe from one of the companies but YMMV.

Just for the heck of it I looked through my reloading books on this as I have pretty much stuck with W209; Fed 209A and Cheddite 209 primers. The loads for CCI209 and CCI209M are listed separately, as one would expect, but you can certainly find loads for most applications that use them. In support of what Claybuster says, I wouldn't substitute them for non-magnum primers. But my books do list loads in which they are used with velocities between 1145 to 1200 ft/sec (and faster). Should be easy enough to find loads you can switch over to if you are doing clays of some kind.

Thanks for the info. I'll do the search and do some reading. There are loads on the Hodgdon Database that call for the 209M that would suit my needs so I'll probably just get the appropriate powder (longshot) and try that out.

Thanks,

Dave
