Looking for a 20g coach gun for the wife. Will be used for bird hunts and checking bear baits. Not looking to spend alot as this will be used very seldom. Who makes a decent coach gun for a decent price? I've looked at Stoeger but reaching out to the CGN community for other cost effective options.

I have considered chopping and threading a cheapie for chokes but that isn’t cheaper. I would expect to pay $400+ for a Stoeger unless the Turkish clones have a cheaper option. For checking baits a chopped unchoked European surplus would probably do.

I bought a CZ Bobwhite in 20GA (made by Huglu in Turkey)last year and absolutely love it (have maybe 600 rounds through it) I since bought a Hugu in 12GA hammer and so far love that one as well although I only have about 175 rounds through it. The triggers on the Huglu are a bit heavy at 7lbs right and 6.5lbs left and it has some heft tipping the scales at 7lbs, 15oz empty but that helps with recoil. The 20GA triggers are 5.5lbs and 6lbs with an empty weight of 6.5 lbs. Bought the 20GA new for $1100 and the 12GA used but like new with <100 rounds through it for $800. Perhaps more than you want to spend but just as a guide.
I was hoping to find a cheap coach gun but if all else fails l will be going the route of buying a older European model and chopping it down to 20 inches. I'm not concerned about having it threaded for chokes as it will be a 25-30 yard gun tips.
Or you can buy mine for $300. Barely used.
