Slugs work just fine out of a 20ga. My Dad shoots a scoped bps 20ga and has and very good results with the Brenekee slugs. I shot one of my biggest bucks using that gun a few seasons back. Its all about shot placement and range when using a 20.
the 20g is fine for deer with slugs .one of the very best slugs is the 16 g by far the flatest shooting slug of all .you will have to try a few different slugs in your gun to get the most out of it have fun and enjoy the lower recoil of the 20g DUTCH

You're not going to be happy with the 20 gauge for deer. The slugs will definitely work better than the 20 gauge buckshot. In BC the shot size considered minimum for deer isn't being made any more. I guess there was too many deer running off wounded. Pack a 12 with at least 2.75 inch buckshot, out here there has to be a minimum of 8 pellets to be legal for deer or bear.
I use the Remington 870 with Remington solid copper sabots, and they hit like a freight train! When I'm in 60 yd. and under terrain, the sabots are deadly accurate, and have tremendous knock down value. I have a Bushnell Holo-sight mounted, and every deer I've hit with that combo has been a bang-flop. I prefer the sabots to slugs, but WITHIN THEIR RANGE LIMITATION, they are serious deer medicine. Shot placement (of course) is everything. There.....my 2 cents worth!
20ga is plenty for deer. My grandfather killed 25+ deer with an old full choke 20ga with just a bead sight on it, with rifled slugs. Just pick your shots, and know your gun, and you'll be fine. Spend some time at the range punching paper so you know what it is capable of.
