Hey Guys,

So, my partner told me yesterday that she recently completed courses to obtain her RPAL and also wrote for her turkey licence. Awesome, high five. While waiting for her card, she's been looking at 20ga. shotties, pumps and autoloaders. She has her sights on a Winchester SX3, the twenty guage being that she's recoil sensitive and thinks it will suit here better.

Any suggestions for a laydee shooter, 5'2", about 120lbs? Stronger than she looks though, that I can tell you first hand. She'd eventually like to migrate to waterfowl and deer/boar hunting. Are there any combo packages out there for a good price?

Maybe something in a youth offering, due to fit and length of pull considerations?

Cheers,

Ian

The SX3's are nice, but the only youth/short LOP option is the Field Compact and I'm not sure if this is still in production. Benelli Nova's are also nice, but same issue as the SX3 AFAIK. Other than that, a Mossberg 500 bantam deer/waterfowl combo would be my suggestion.

The SX3 Field Compact 20 gauge is still available. I just got a pair of them in from Browning a couple months back. Great looking shotgun, assembled nice (everything fit without forcing), finish looks good, cycle well - can't tell you how they shoot, won't let me shoot them in the store :)

You might also want to look at the PA-08 Compact models from Weatherby. I have the 20 gauge upland (full sized), wood stocked that I set up for Turkey (added fiber sights, extended tube). The full size is nice and light (barely 6 lbs), the compact would be less. Another super nice finished gun, everything fits together well, cycles and ejects without issue (have about 200 shells through mine now) and comes in somewhat less expensive than the Winchester or the lady/youth model 870's (which in comparison to the Winchester and Weatherby have less quality fit/finish).
