tradex some of these and I was thinking it would make a great black bear/ deer round inside 200yds, what do fellas think?

The LEE MODERN RELOADING manual has data for the 215 gr. You can either PM me for the data or I can post it here if that's permitted.

From The Lyman/Ideal #40 book back when the earth was flat........IMR3031/36gr/2070fps.......MAX 40gr/2265fps IMR 4064 /38.5gr/2065fps..........MAX 41gr/2200fps IMR4320/39gr/2135fps..........MAX42gr/2300fps IMR4350/40gr/2035fps....MAX/46gr/2340fps use at own risk but it's a start........Harold

too bad it isn't just a bit faster, lol, but if I can get 2300 fps with a 215gr bullet it should knock anything down inside 200yds easy

Actually, there are some darn good velocity figures there, for a 303. Standard 30-06 loadings with 220 grain are just in the 2400 bracket.

Factory loads were only 2180fps .........Ken Waters Pet Loads lists MAX LOAD........IMR 4320/42gr @2289fps with an OAL of 3.07" for a 215gr Rem RN........46gr of MRP gave 2107fps and was listed as one of the five most accurate loads....
46gr/H4831/2075fps [accurate load]................................. 46gr IMR4831/2160fps..........46gr /IMR4350/2220fps]good heavy bullet load].........Harold

I have used the 46-4350 load quite a bit in a #4 and it works well out to 300. I think it's a little hot for a #1 and, in either rifle, case life is likely to be short. I am presently using 44 grains in the #1 and it produces over 2200 at pressure levels I like better.

True enough. When I first started big game hunting in the B.C. central interior in the early 60's, the 303Br. Dominion 215gr were Dads choice for Moose.

Yeah, but that was before critters became armour-plated. Now, you need a 458 Lott for jackrabbit.

I wonder if the 215 grainers would be enough for bear defense? I doubt it.

The old 215 grain .303 Dominion load will wade a lot of meat. Much better penetration than 180 grain loads. In my neck of the woods it was the favoured load for moose as well. Long, heavy for calibre bullets are VERY effective at close and medium ranges though now out of favour. The 160 grain roundnose in the 6.5mm, 175 grain roundnose in the 7mm and 215 roundnose in .303 cal. all made quite a rep in Africa on really heavy game early in the last century.
