This is in conclusion to my previous thread about the CCI vs Federal primers.

This morning I went out to see if there was a physical difference at the back end and then a difference on target.

Left is the BR , center 215 , right 200.

Group sizes I cannot say were really effected, the BR might of been slightly smaller than the other two.

However the CCI(both BR and 200) did have about 1 MOA drop at 500 yards compared to the Federal, it calculated out to a loss of about 50 ft/sec at the muzzle.

Looks like Dogleg may of pegged it with the Savage bolt thing.

Yes, Federal shows softer to me.

Not impressed with the loss of resolution when uploaded to photobucket.

A couple weeks ago I bought some different primers at a gun show, and told about them here. It was RWS primers from the 1960s era and the apparently rare, Norma primers.
I did a small test, using them, along with CCI 200 and CCI 250 as a guide.
I used the 243 and loaded twelve identical cartridges with a 75 grain Sierra bullet and 45 grains of 414 powder and used the various primers.
Here are the results.

CCI 200 primer--3398, 3439, 3376-- average 3404 with es of 59.

CCI 250 primer---3406, 3439, 3393---av. 3412, with es of 67.

RWS primers--- 3357, 3355, 3359---av. 3357, with es of 4

Norma primers--3400, 3428, 3417 --av. 3415, with an es of 28.

So there you have it. If I was going for accuracy it would be RWS, hands down.
For good general all around loads, it would be hard to beat the Norma primers.
The 414 powder used is a ball powder and is simply a renaming of the old, tried and true, Winchester 760.

Well H4831 , it sure is interesting when we start doing our own little tests how the little subtleties come out.

My vertical stringing was again very small , so I feel that the powders were burning completely. How this will change in sub zero I won't know for a while yet, I should of taken the chronograph but figured my targets would tell me plenty.

Been using W760 in a couple hunting rifles , no issues with CCI primers.

I still think I will stick with the Federal as that is what I used throughout load development and testing.
