Currently happy using 55gr Gamekings exclusively in my .22-250 for all my hunting....from Jack Rabbit to Coyotes.

I'm looking for a different bullet to play with....a short bullet to stabilize in my 1:14 twist.
The 40gr Nosler BalTip's are short with a decent BC.

What can I expect from a 40gr BalTip?
Will they drop much less at 300 yards....what about 400 yards?
Will they be much worse in the wind?
Will they take down game from jacks to coyotes out past 300 yards without a problem?
Will they be more explosive on Jacks and blow them to pieces?

Not experienced hunting with 40gr, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

Wind will be your biggest enemy with this light bullet.

Look at the 50 grain V-Max as well. I have used it in my 22-250 for gopher kills out to 400yds.

Are you actually shooting out to 300/400 yards in southern Ontario?

I can't comment on the 40 gr's, but I have shot 45 grainers out to 300 yards on the range without significant bullet drop or wind effects. (when i say without, I mean not much more than a 50 or 55 gr bullet)

If you are looking for a short bullet try the 36gr varmint grenades, they measure under .70, as for the results on game I cannot comment on the efficiency as I have not tested them first hand yet.

I shoot a 22/250 ackley improved with 40 gr. blitz kings great accuracey have killed crows/ hoggs/ coyotes/ out past 500yrds. ranged with rang finder and a lot of paper shooting at 100yrds to 750yrds I like 40s the best for a light bullet high velocity combination.
