.22-250 and 22 inch barrel. Anyone done it here?

Almost got the funds saved to buy a new barrel to convert my 700 into exactly what I want in a coyote/varmint gun. Not sure if this was the right forum, but its for a varmint type of build and you guys seem to be the more knowledgable for these types of ?'s.

I'm thinking a 22" 1-9 rot .22-250 would be perfect for my intentions for mainly predator hunting. Thinking a #4 magnum sporter contour would be just right. My goal is to shoot the Sierra 65gr. GK or even the Hornaday 68gr. BTHP Match. To my knowledge, the Savage predator is the only .22-250 offered with a 22" barrel and guys seem to like them alot. Anyone else have any knowledge or educated opinions on barrel length to add?
Where I live there are alot of opportunities in the 300-500 yard range and thats what driving my heavier bullet idea. That and the fact I'm all set up to roll for the '250.
 
The stevens 200 has a 22" barrel 1-12 I shot some 60gr no problem so a 1-9 will let you shoot up to 75gr for sure give it a go .
I'm building a 22-250 with a 19" barrel right now 1-9 twist for a pack gun and I expect it will shoot 75's just fine.
 
Thanks guys! I will search the fast twist and read up. Seems that 20ish inches hits an accuracy node for heavier bullets when I googled 'fast twist .224'.
 
if you want to light up your 22-250 use a 1/7 twist and shoot th 80 & 90gr Bergers and you can shoot to 1000y and very accurate ,watched a freind testing loads in his 1/7 30" in 22-250 it really shines with Varget.
The 55 to 69gr 224 bullets just don't work as well as the 80 & 90gr bullets.
The low BC of the small bullets can't come close to the 551 BC of the 90gr at longer ranges

It's all going to depend on what you want the rifle for. If you are building a hunting/walking rifle, you probably aren't going to be able to wring the last bit of accuracy out of it at 1000yrds. I'd build it to shoot the match bullet that thinks it's a varmint bullet- the 75 amax. Flys very well, is cheap, and will buck the wind pretty well at 3300 fps.

If you are building a heavier chunk, then yeah- 26-38" 1-7" varmint contour and push the 90 berger to 3100 and forget the flags.
 
Thats exactly the idea. Varmint rig. No 1000 yard intent whatsoever. If I can get the gun to shoot inside a 5" circle at 500 yards reliably I'll be happy. I just find that when the coyotes are moving where I live/hunt, the wind is up. I really like the Hor. 52gr. bthp match for performance/accuracy, but don't like how unreliable it seemed in the wind. Missed a couple off the pods in high winds at 300+ish yards and had grouping issues when the wind was around 15 km/hr off a bench at 200 yards on paper. My gun as it sits shot some 1" groups at that distance with no wind and most groups were 1 1/2 -2".Figure that 75 amax would be perfect. Get the drop figured out to 600 yards and give it a go. I took a bullet last night (55 gr. NBT) and loaded it out to 2.490 oal and it fits in the mag. Gotta sell one more little gun I don't use and I can order the barrel.
 
Reviving this one from the past and Jordan you are right. Took a few shots in a howling crosswind and the wind has alot less effect on the 75gr amax at 3100fps. Very nice!
