22-250 long range?

Remember that Berger VLD's use a thin jacket so in a barrel too long, failure can occur if the core is overheated.

I have shot 90gr VLD's to just under 3200fps trying to blow them up. This was in a 7 twist McGowen at 26" I think. Didn't loose a bullet. Dissapointing but fun all the same.

I have pushed the Berger 90gr BT's to 1500ish yds without issue out of a 223 going 2800fps. A 22-250 should just do it faster.

Nice.

About the bergers, the hunting VLD's have the regular old thinner target jackets. This was the reason they made the newerish target rounds with the thicker jackets. To pervent the led from blowing out causing flyers. You think that's about there limit ?

Ps. I know u know the Berger history, just typed that so other readers are up to date.

The difference in the jackets is a few thou and does help with core melting. A few are different in shape but most are just the same bullet with a diff jacket.

However, out of a 22-250 and long barrels, you may still exceed threshold.

only one way to find out.

Enjoy...
