I ordered a Rem M700 LV-SF in 22-250 today. I'm stoked. I also put in a order for a Deluxe set of Redding dies, Win brass and a box of Nosler 50 gr. BTips and Hornady 50 gr. V-Max.

I have 2 powders that are commonly used in this chambering, Varget and RL 15. If I were to grab some more powder, what would you suggest I try?

Anyone have a pet load you'd share using the above components?

Yotes beware this spring!!:D

IMR 4064 has produced some great groups for me in the 22-250. All of my 22-250s liked lighter bullets, such as 45 or 50 grain Vmax, and my Ruger No 1 VT in 22-250 would shoot the cheap Remington 45 grain hollow points into less than half an inch at 100 yards!!

I can’t comment on the powder to use but I do like your choice of rifle. I had considered ordering one in the 221 Rem. Fireball but was concern on the availability of brass. Anyhow it’s a nice looking rifle. Good luck and have fun...

I second 4064. From the sounds of things, H380 is pretty #####in, too, but I've never tried it :p

I like 50 & 55 grain bullets with it. It's a little slow for the lighter bullets, and a little too fast for heavies.

Your particular rifle is 1/14 twist (like most 22-250's) so it'll probably get along with 50/55 gr bullets the best. At only a 22" barrel though, your velocities will be considerably below published figures.

i shoot50 gr barnes varminators 36.4 gr varget cci large rifle mag primers and usually rem brass
i havent chronyed them but their accurate and deadly
I shoot a rem 700vs

W-760 is what I found to work best with the 52 grain bullets.

I've also had good results with Win 760 with bullets in the 50 - 55 gr range. It seems to give good velocity and accuracy out of my Rem 22-250.

Great choice! The only improvement you could make on that as a coyote rig is to buy the LVSF in 223 and punch her out to 223 AI (grin)!

I have used 37gr of RE 15 w/50gr Vmax and CCI 200 primers in 7 different 22-250's and it has shot awesome in all of them. It was my favorite load, and the demise of hundreds of yotes. Load development for the 22-250 is easy... as long as it is a 50gr Vmax. This is undoubtedly my favorite dog bullet ... nothing else comes close.

Enjoy

Define "considerably"?

Most of the loads I've seen in published manuals are with 26" barrels. So, I'd guesstimate that you'll be ~200 fps lower with the exact same charge in a 22" tube

A custom barrel very well could be in the future for this rig.;)

I had good results with H4895 in 22-250 with Sierra HPBT match bullets, I can't remember if they are 52 or 53 grain bullets anymore though.

Holy Crap!!

We'll just got off the phone. Turns out the LV-SF in 22-250 is on back order at the places I'm contacted. I'm not going on back order so I decided to go with a 223 that is in stock...at least they say.

So.... ....all the same questions...but for the 223 instead.

.223's tend to have faster twist rates, and tend to get along with heavier bullets than 22-250's

Varget's good, RL-10x is good, BL-C(2) is good too

I figured the .223 had mostly 1-12 in factory jobs, could be a brain fart on my part through.

Yep. This particular model, and most factory 223's are 1 in 12. Most factory 22-250's are 1 in 14

Punch her out to 223 AI right from the get go, and forget you even wanted a 22-250.

The critters will not know the difference, but your powder supply will.

I had mine built and picked up 1000 Win cases from Cannuck223 and 7lbs of WC735 from Higginson.

50gr VMax at 3500fps is my favorite load (3" groups @ 450yds) and I loaded her up to 3700fps just for kicks... shoots awesome!

40gr BT's at 3970fps are deadly too!

You will become a believer once you own one!

Some will not feed super smooth in the 223AI... that is the one posslble tradeoff. RickF's feeds super well, and mine feeds 'em fine, but not as smooth as his.

You don't even need fancy dies. I use a Hornady 22 Cal necksizer (universal) and use my 22-250 Rem seater die or a Lee 223 Seater die (works fine, as they have plenty of clearance even for the improved case - all of Lee's seater dies will work with the improved versions). The Ammo is superb!

Benchmark is THE powder for the 223

others work well like Varget, 4895, RL15, Ramshot X-Terminator, and some ball milsurp (Ive got some WC845 that works good for $14/lb)

I use W-W cases or Black Hills match brass, with Federal 205M primers. 55 gr. Nosler BT is my go-to bullet, but Ive had good accuracy with alot of different types
