22-250 or ?

X2, plus your barrel will last longer (at least than it would with the 22-250) with a 223.

He's looking at trading for one of the two guns, either a Savage in .204 or a tikka in 22-250. I'd say go with the tikka, better gun better cal. Not alot of ammo choices in .204

Exactly, I have a .223 Savage it was a .204 or 22-250. I did a trade for the
22-250 Tikka. I have a Tikka .308 already so now it has a little sister.

I`m using a 204 tikka and love it, I will get another 22-250 again. If your shooting off bags and letting the forend float the 22-250 will jump a lot losing the sight pic. 204 doesn`t jump as much, similar to 222 easier to keep an eye on gophers exploding. At 1-200 yards all the suggestions will do the job nicely.

I would go with the 223 also. cheaper ammo and better selection. And for sure go with the Savage 10, 11 or 12. Not an Axis. The Axis is too much like a Plastikka 
Word of caution - generally "factory" 22-250 is designed as a varmint, prairie dog sort of gun and has barrell twist to stabilize light and extremely fast bullets (42-55gr) at super super fast speeds approaching and exceeding 4000fps. Superb accuracy at ranges you intend to shoot at.
Some custom guns in 22-250 have faster twists like 1:7 to stabilize heavier (69-80gr) match bullets. Superb accuracy as well, and can be competitive at much longer ranges including 800m in "precision rifle" matches.
Problem with those guns is that commercial 22-250 ammo is generally geared towards the factory guns -- lots of lightweight varmint cartridges.
So -- if you're going to get a gun with slow twist for light bullets, don't expect good long-range (300m+) accuracy from it.
Or if you find a fast twist barrel that will shoot heavier match bullets - be prepared to start handloading for it if you don't already.
Fun caliber. My wife shot a custom grade 22-250 with 80 Sierras and it was a tack driver. Barrel finally toast with throat erosion (OH - by the way - 22-250 velocities are rough on barrels...)She did get over 5000 rds from it... and she's rebarrelling with a 308 instead.

Looks like Sksavenger may need a little walk home after the next coyote hunt, although he posted that plastikka comment after visiting the girlfriend. Could be he was a little cranky, maybe didn`t get the oil changed last weekend.
