I'm having a difficult time finding 22-250 ammo in 40, 45 or 50 grain.
My Savage 12BVSS doesn't group well in anything heavier. I was told by Savage that the 1 in 12 twist is the reason the heavier grains cause the groups to open up.
Anyone with recipes for reloading 40, 45 or 50 grains would be appreciated.

I have had good luck using H414 with 50 to 52 gr. bullets in both a Remington and a Ruger....I also found that bulk Rem. HP bullet shot very well...(I don't remember if they are 50 or 52grs.)
 
I had trouble getting heavier bullets to shoot well out of my Rem 788.
I use Sierra 40 gr HP, 39.0 gr of H380, Federal 215 primers. I tried a few with more powder but I started to get flat primers and sticky bolt so I backed it down to 39 gr. It will shoot 3/4" @ 100yds if I do my part.
I also tried the Nosler 40 gr Vmax and they grouped very well too.

I have a savage LRPV and it has a 1in 9 twist so I am told to use the heaver bullet. I have the Hornady 52 and 60 gr V-Max The 52's are not V-Max just HP. Does any one have any recipes ? I hope I am not hijacking this thread.

June 24/07 - Hornady 50grn V-Max over 35.4grns of Hodgdon Benchmark in Remington Cases sent off by CCI 200 Primer with a C.O.L of 2.475 (Just shot a 4 shot 100M .353 group testing this load today)

June 16/07 - Hornady 50grn V-Max over 35.5grn Hodgdon Benchmark in a Winchester Case sent off by CCI 200 Primer with a C.O.L of 2.475 (3 shot group @ 100M .345)

June 16/07 - Hornady 50grn V-Max over 36grn Hodgdon Benchmark in a Winchester Case sent off by CCI 200 Primer with a C.O.L of 2.475 (3 shot group @ 100M .534)

June 16/07 - Hornady 50grn V-Max over 36.5grn Hodgdon Varget in a Winchester Case sent off by CCI 200 Primer with a C.O.L of 2.475 (3 shot group @ 100M .520)

I have had no luck so far with the 52grn Hornady A-Max bullets with the 2 powders mentioned in the above recipes.

Always start with lower powder amounts and work your way up checking for pressure signs!!!!!

Most factory 22-250's are 1 in 14 twist. If your Savage is really a 1 in 12, it should shoot the heavier (50-55 gr) bullets without problems. My 1 in 14 twist Tikka will shoot 55 gr easily.
 
I have a Savage model 12 VLP with 1:12 twist and it shoots 60 grain bullets as good or better than anything else.
If yours is 1:12 twist it shouldn't have any trouble grouping 60 grain bullets
Maybe it is time to give it a GOOD cleaning.
Anyway,one of my most accurate loads is 39.6grains of WIN 760 beneath a 60grain Sierra HP with a Win LR primer.This is pretty much max in my rifle so start well below and DO NOT leave loaded rounds in the hot sun or you might have a very sticky bolt when trying to open.
 
You looking for loaded ammo or reloading data? My old Lyman book has lots of data for 40, 45 and 50 grain jacketed bullets.
For loaded ammo, Marstar is listing Winchester with a 45 grain bullet. Wholesale sports is listing 45 grain Remington UMC ammo. They call is 'government surplus' for some reason.
Mind you, where you are matters. Shipping ammo is expensive.

I had Wholesale throw in a box of the UMC #### they call ammunition when I bought my XR-100. I think they pack it half full of mud it's so frickin' dirty.
