I have 150 rounds of 22-250 ammo that I used in my Sako 22 inch barrel that shot incredible. Today at the range with my Remington 22-250 26 inch barrel I tried the same reloads and was getting definite pressure signs that I didn't have with the Sako and no accuracy! I will mention that these reloads are new and were not fired in the Sako, it is just stuff that was loaded I had left over after I sold the rifle. Bolt still lifted fine, but the primers are starting to crater! I seem to be getting about 200 FPS more than I did with the Sako, so it seems to be approximately 50 FPS per inch gain! Here are the details on the rifles & reloads:

Remington VSF II Desert Tan 1-14 twist 26 inch barrel

Sako 75 S/S 1-12 twist 22 3/8 barrel

52gr HPBT 210M primer 36gr Varget 3500FPS (Sako) 3730FPS (Rem)

60gr Partition 210M primer 34gr RL15 3450FPS (Sako) 3650FPS (Rem)

40gr Vmax 210M primer 39.5gr Varget 4130FPS (Sako) 4320FPS (Rem)

According to Hodgdon these loads are at, but not over max.

How much should the loads be reduced? Is there a formula a guy can use for # of inches in a barrel? Also anyone out there with a VSF II what are you finding is accurate?

Right now I have 50gr Nosler BT I can load, 210M primers and Varget, RL15 and Benchmark powder to choose from!

Thanks Guys!

Round count is now 14. Rifle cleaned up nice. Appears to be no marks on the face from hard extraction. Cartridges all came out fine. Is this normal, or too hot? Primer did not look like this on my Sako.

your cratered primer may just be from your bolt face/firing pin hole, its fairly common to get what appears to be cratered primer when fired in a Remington 700. If the edges of the primer are still fairly round you should be fine. Judging by the velocity you're getting, you're not overloading the rifle that much. Ive shot 37 grs Varget with 55 gr hollowpoints for 3680 fps in a 24" tube with no extreme pressure signs.

Yeah it looks like your firing pin hole is a just a little oversized. Common with remington 700's. The edges of your primers are still round and there's no ejector marks or anything like that... so I'd say you're good to go.

My SPS varmint in .308 does the same with everything from min to max loads.

One point! Do not mix brands of brass and expect any accuracy as they most likely have a different case capacity. Spotted both Remington and Winchester brass mixed.
Just my 2 cents worth!

Yeah, the brass is actually mixed up because it fell out of my case guard. The 3 different loads I had out there were loaded with 1 type of brass. The 40gr Vmax were the Win Brass & the 52gr HPBT & 60gr were the Rem Brass.

if the edges of the primers are still round your fine, also looking at the primers is a poor meathod, you should be measuring near the rim of the case with a caliper and comparing it to a factory round or saami case specs.

Your brass like RochChucker mention should not be mixed.
The problem is not your loads its the size of hole in bolt face is to large. I have sent 2 Remington 700 back because of this and got new replacement guns one was better the other the same both where in 223 rem police models I have a New XCR longrange tactical
no problem. My brother just got his bolt back from GreTan rifles. Bushed firing pin hole and turn pin very nice job, $55 he added one of there lite firing pins much faster lock time than regular remington firing pin.http://www.gretanrifles.com/

I would PM Denis Sorenson He did a friend of mine bushed pin Very Nice work he did, and not have dangers of shipping loss in USPS. I know a friend who sent him one did a fine job. you will absolutly no primers flowing around firing pin.
Two fellows at range blew primers with a load of 25gr Varget and 80gr sierras (max Load)
One gun had its Jewell trigger screwed-up when primer pierced cost him shipping and $55 US to get repaired
hope this helps
