.22-250 vs .22-250ai? couple questions.

Full disclosure I asked a similar question on the Gunsmith page, although more geared to magazines.

Debating between the 2 calibers, open to other options as well.
Some seem to say going to the AI gets me quite a few more fps, some say not so much.. Also the answer to which is better for barrel life seems debated. What are peoples thoughts between the two? I reload, and don't buy factory ammo anymore. Also need to keep in the .224 family and mag fed (maybe AI mags?)
Thoughts on a twist rate? thinking 1 in 8 get me up to 80gr bullets. For coyotes mainly, maybe a couple of long range shots, is it worth going to 1:7 to shoot 90grs?
Anyone think 1:7 would be too much for 60gr Nosler Ballistic Tips?

I say go for it.

FPS increase
Brass life increase / less trimming
Barrel life probably negligible.

At the 1-8 twist, you maybe able to stabilize the 90s due to much more speed than the 223 is capable of.

I have a 1-7 twist on a 223 and 52gr Speer bullets pop without pushing them very hard. That being said, I could see the same issue with 60gr in a 22-250ai but can't say for certain.
 
I had one. Or, had 4 of them. One rifle, went thru 4 barrels. Each stainless steel barrel lasted about 1,000 rounds. A blue barrel would burn out even faster.

I was shooting 80 Sierras at up to 3400 fps. Very, very accurate. When barrel wears the bullets start to blow up in mid flight.

If I was to do it again, I would use a 1:9 to reduce the RPMs and risk of bullet blow up. I find 1:9 works with 80 SMK in a 223 if velocity is 2900 or more. So a 22-250 would work well with a 1:9 with 80SMK.

For long range yotes, the 80 would reduce wind drift a lot. I shot it back to 1600 yards.
 
Speed is such a lovely thing...... I think it's an addiction to!!!...it's amazing I was playing with my .220 swift and the hotter the loads the better the groups I got..... Just crazy!!!!!!

Coyotes and wolves across the field don't have a chance!!!!!
