I am looking for a 22 LR with the following characteristics: bolt action, synthetic stock, heavy barrel. I am just starting to look, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

My suggestion might sound odd, but have you looked at Marlin 9xxT series? Mine is surprisingly accurate for a cheap rifle, I did not expect it to be able to print 3/4" groups at 50 yards from bench rest, but it does. Basically it shoots where you point it. The only downside is non-adjustable trigger, which happens to be a bit too stiff. The Marlin will not be an option if you are looking for total control of your trigger.

Walther KKJ if you can get your hands on one, or Anschutz 1416. Thats for 22 LR. If into 17 HMR, CZ 452 Varmint. Gotta bed the action on those. The Anschutz are tight. You made a Good choice of caliber for Accurate fun at the range.

I have narrowed my choices down to the Savage MarkIIFV, CZ 452 Style or Silhouette and a semi-auto Marlin 7000. I haven't made the final decision but I'm leaning towards the savage. I haven't handled the Marlin yet but the CZ has a wonderful solid/quality feel to it. However the price is higher than the others!
Good luck and post some pics when you get one.

I'll second that. I've got a 925 that shoots amazingly well. Not bad for a $200.00 gun.

CZ will be a good choice, I heard only good things from the owners and basically they sum up as an overall good reliable rifle out of the box. You're in Burlington, if you would like to come to Silverdale you can test drive my Marlin one day.
