I've never tried that, cause I don't have a hornet but it should work. I do something similar for .22 LR. I take a .22 pellet and attach it to a .22 cal starter pistol blank with a small "dot" of silicone seal. They work great in single shot .22's and .22 revolvers. They are extremely quiet, surprisingling accurate and pack quite a punch (+/- 750 fps over the chrono). No problem dropping crows and squirrels @ 40 yds. Just a note of caution - I believe some of the blanks are corrosive so clean accordingly.
