Maybe I'm wimpy, or maybe I don't want to get into reloading, but I just bought a couple of .22 handguns and am looking forward to shooting them. One was a P22 that I bought of of a board member and the other a revolver I ordered from SIR (Taurus Tracker). I'm really looking forward to the day they arrive and trying them out. I'm kind of glad my wife cheesed me off the other night and I ordered the revolver from SIR, otherwise I would have only had one toy to play with. :D I'm hoping the P22 will be small enough for my daughter who is 5, but I'm sure I will have to use it for a while untill it fits her.

My nine year old daughter as been shooting for about a year. Start her on a pellet gun in the back yard to get the basics down, such as safety, marksmanship. Then to .22 rifle to put into play the basics taught with pellet guns. Then .22 pistol. I just bought a Ruger MkII for my daughter, she likes it just fine. Whe has shot my 9mm, AR as well, but don't push them to shoot the big ones, let them watch and ask you to shoot otherwise you'll scare them out of shooting...
My $0.02 worth

Wife and I have Kimber 22's we shoot all the time . Hope to get the wife into larger 1911's sometime but she likes her 22 and is good with it so thats fine by me !

.22 Handguns...

Despite owning a few different handguns in centerfire cartridges I also have & enjoy shooting .22 handguns. Both pistol & revolver. In no way does that make you "wimpy" in my books. Especially if you are not into reloading. You will get more bang for your buck buying bricks of .22's to blast off. The point is you are getting out & enjoying yourself with your toys. And something that the whole family can do, too. ;) :D

Great choice KDX! I have thing about the Taurus Tracker for a long time but never seen one in person, they have very good reviews and look forward for your range report. P22 is good for children with its safty features.

Have fun!

.22

Nothing whimpy about .22's. I sold all my centerfires and bought a Ruger MK11 Competition and a S&W 17 10 shot revolver. Both sport red dot sights as my ole eyes are not what they used to be. I even have a Safariland open front holster for my revolver so that I can shoot combat style. These guns are tack drivers and I can afford to shoot them a LOT. However I miss my S&W 686 and my 1911. Going to have to fix that before the Liberals start messing around. To sum it all up. Better to have a .22 and shoot it a LOT than to have a centerfire and rarely use it.;)

In complete agreement with "bat" and "NAA". Furthermore, all of the good quality .22 pistols and revolvers have good sights, good to excellent trigger pulls, they sit well in the hand with good "pointability" - all of which enable you to become competent with a handgun. Much more efficient and effective than starting with a centrefire. Centrefire can come after you are proficient with a .22.
