22 caliber max accurate range.

I have a 1 in 8 twist 22-250. I am shooting 77 grain berger tactical OTM bullets at around 2850 fps. The max range for really accurate shooting seems to be around the 450 m mark. Today I shot a 2 litre from 600 m but it took a few shots to hit it. What kind of results are you guys getting with your 22 cal long range rigs?

My 8 twist .223 shooting 80.5 bergers at 2950 will shoot 2.5" 15 round groups at 500 meters, I've had it out to 1100 meters and it stays under one moa at that distance.
 
Sight height is 2.25" and elevation is roughly 34 mins depending on atmospheric conditions. Drop is easy part, the wind really plays havoc on the. 223 at that range. Even at 1k I can keep vertical to less that a half minute most days.
 
Try Hodgdon superform, no book loads but if you work up easy you may find a load that works. My custom Ruger 77 shoots 80 grain vld's at a chronographed 3350fps
Shot it out to 750 yards with a group of 1/3 moa
 
I have a 26" 1-7, 22-243 that pushes the 90 Bergers at 31-3200, it will happily shoot sub moa out past 1K if it the conditions allow.

With a BC of .552 they are fantasic little needles.

The only trouble with them is being so small seeing the strikes way out there is difficult.
 
consider trying IMR4007SSC for the 77/80gr family of bullets. Hrn Hybrid 100V might be interesting. H4350 should be good too.

You will have no issue reaching 3000fps.

Speed is not the end all. Accuracy trumps speed. Bore life will be better at lower pressures and speed too

Wouldn't hurt to get a scope level. Canting the scope just 3° can put you off target by a couple inches at 300 yards, and more like 10 inches at 1000 yards. Vortex makes scope levels of 1", 30mm and 35mm scope tubes. Start with leveling the scope to the rifle, then setting the scope level. Quality scopes should have turrets that are perendicular to the crosshairs, so it can checked against another level on the turret. Or you can hang a plumb line, line up your vertical crosshair to that, and then set the scope level. Eliminating scope cant will help tighten up those groupings and eliminate apparrent windage errors, especially at longer ranges.
 
I do have a vortex scope level on it and you are right it does help. I think I might have my problem solved by switching powders. The trajectory is much flatter and the groups at longer ranges are much better. I was hoping to get to 550M with this gun and it looks like thats not going to be a problem. The biggest errors I was getting before the powder change were elevation errors. I went from AA4350 to VV N550
 
ive been pushing out to 600 yards with 75gr amax and getting about moa-.75 moa groups but havent been able to push past that yet but i have good dope for up to 600m and feel confident out to 500 at 600 i find the wind starts playing with the bullet alot more than my skills can predict.

A 3° cant will shift the bullet POI about 0.8" at 300 yards, and about 18" at 1000 yards.

In most circumstances (especially when you're target shooting at a nice square piece of paper, that you can reference your reticle to), a 3° cant is pretty obvious and is something you wouldn't do except on purpose. Though in some field positions you could have a cant error larger than this that you just wouldn't be able to see/tell.

Moral of the story is that cant matters little if any at short range, and quite a bit at long range.
