.22 competition shooters - where do you get your ammo?

When Wholesale happens to have Remington 22 game loads in stock I buy cases full of it since last time they were selling it for $140 a case of 4000 and both my 22's like the stuff almost as well as the really expensive target ammo. However I find I have to stockpile a year or two's supply as they are very spotty on having it in stock.

the wholesalesports in saskatoon carries lapua sometimes. sometimes as in i've only seen them have it once and i bought a box of it. i dont know if they actually carry the stuff but you could ask and see if they actually order the stuff.

International Imports typically has a good supply of Lapua and Eley target
grade ammo. And ,as Jordan mentioned, Peter is the man to talk to.
Like any 22 ammo though you'll need to test one or two to see which your
rifle likes. I have shot batches of CCI Standard velocity Pt # 0032 which held
1" groups at 100m. The recent production doesn't seem to perform like that
though. I understand that Hirsch Precision is to be marketing SK Jagd ammo.
This company is owned either wholly or partially by Lapua but are in Germany.
Their ammo is on par with various grades of Lapua.

Andrew, that is quite interesting that Hirsch will be carrying Sk Jagd. Some of the guys on RFC are getting remarkable scores on the USBR at 50 yards with the standard plus (245+) - Would be nice If I didn't have to spend $10 a target to get scores like that ;). From what I understand sk Jagd is owned fully by Lapua - Lapua SC and Sk standard are esentailly the same, along with Wolf Mt. They all have the same Lapua headstamp and look the exact same - just different box. I am not sure though if the higher end Lapua is made in the same factory. I remember reading somewhere that Master and Midas were made somewhere else, but not sure on that one ;).

Grouseman - If you are looking for real good ammo, as Dryfire mentioned you will have to test lot numbers. There can be big differences in the various lot numbers and how they perform in various conditions. Just because one works in colder weather doesn't mean it will work in the warmer weather. To give you an idea we have our club precision shoot at 100 yards with the .22lr. I found one lot number that performed remarkably well when I was shooting it in the winter. So I bought 7 bricks. It continued to do well Nov through to about March with scores of about 795-799 (out of 800), and then when it got warmer my scores slowly started to drop and when the summer was warmest I was shooting in the low 780's.

Something to keep in mind :) Just ask Peter about lot numbers and he should be able to help you out. He is quick knowledgeable about all of this!

+1 for International. They carry Eley and Lapua at very competitive prices. I believe that their price on Federal GM is better than the big box stores, too.
