well i purchased my first rimfire rifle the other day. i wanted to know what competitions are open to .22lr rifles in and around the montreal area or further.

i am also shopping for a scope so i want to know what distance i should be shooting at in terms for competitions and what size scope i should be looking for.

any links would be helpful.
thanks!

bravo-05,

What type of competition are you looking for ? Position-style ? Benchrest ?

Also, what kind of rifle did you get ? Let me know and I'll be able to help you.

Paul

Contact Local Clubs

Phone your local clubs and see what they offer. Better still, if they do have 22 activities, then go check out the club, get a tour and let someone show you the type of shooting. Set up your visits when they have an activity relating to .22 cal going on. That way you'll see what's going down and if you want to participate.

good idea wayne. i will look into that as well. i just thought it might be faster to get some information online with more details and recommendations.

bravo-05,

As you bought a sporter and as you want to shoot with a scope, the only serious option I know of in the greater Montreal area is the Club Maska, near St-Hyacinthe (http://www.centredetirmaska.com) They have a weekly .22 sporter league which is shot prone.

Hope it helps,

Paul

The SFC holds a number of sanctioned competitions including the National Smallbore Rifle Championship which has a Hunting rifle catogory and other sporting catogories. Check out their website for more info. http://www.sfc-ftc.ca

And if you're ever in Ottawa come by the RA Gun Club. We have a 25 yards indoor range where we shoot 22LR. We host the LSBA and Indoor Provincial competitions for our area.

+1 on Paul's idea!

Your best bet would be the "Hunting" rifle class... Hopefully they'll run a relay at the outdoor provincial later on this summer ;)(Club Maska). You will be shooting in the prone/kneeling/standing positions.

Most indoor match are shot at 20 yards, while outdoor match are shot at 50y/50m... Personnaly, I wouldn't worry too much about grouping... if you shoot a bad score on your first match, it only gives you more room for improvment :D

Are you a member at any club?

Mike.
