.22 conversion for shotgun?

I have a steel adapter from 12 gauge to .45ACP I can't wait to try. Frankly I'm sceptical of aluminum barrels or inserts, but this steel opne seems well made with excellent rifling - about 3" of it. One interesting question - are these prohibited devices under the barrel length rules?? :roll:

BTW, What's with the "#### Denmark" crap?

I doubt the barrel length is of concern as they are not pistols.

I believe the "#### Denmark" thing is due to the trivial squabble Canada is currently engaged in over a hunk of barren rock between Baffin Island and Greenland.

So how long do you figure it will be before some dip#### tries a chamber insert in an Orion flare gun :roll:
 
It probably won't fit in an ORION FLARE GUN as they have very short chambers to prevent inserting and firing regular shot shells in it's unlocked design. The Orion flare gun looks like it was designed to fire only things that are powered by the primer only, hence the lack of any kind of locking mechanism and the totally plastic everything.
 
It occured to me that they might be used for small-game while hunting bigger stuff. e.g. you're out deer-hunting with slugs and you take a break to bag a bunny-rabbit. At close-range, of course.

It just seems to be that in the case of an aluminum insert, the barrel would be prone to wear. Obviously this is not for high-volume shooting.

I, too, wondered whether this would be prohibited due to the short 'barrel"-length. Plus wouldn't the shotgun barrel act as a 'silencer'? Double bad ! :roll:
 
Looks like it would be best used in a break-action, and with such short rifling I can't see it being too accurate...But a really neat idea.

Yah I'd rather have it in good Gun Steel...methinks aluminum wouldn't last long.

Also since the shotgun barrel isn't designed to be a silencer, I can't see how this device would be made illegal...as 'Act as a silencer' and 'designed to be one' are to very different things. Besides which for a true silencer you need baffles, and vents and such.

Interesting grey area.

Tech' one could make a .22 insert out of an old .22 barrel...one old Cooey could provide enough barrel inserts for around six 18.5 in shotgun barrels with 2-3/4 chambers. Weld on some shotgun brass to get the flange and such.

Anyone feel like calling the CFC and asking them about this? :idea:
Like does the insert count as the "barrel" while it needs a shotgun barrel to work?
 
Your original over-all-length hasn't changed, so who cares what you stuff down the barrel in regards to inserts.

No, the original barrel would not act like a silencer. First of all, there are no wipes or baffles or anything- right? Right.
You will still get no reduction of sound, perhaps directed a little more forward but no reduction at all. A .45 will still sound like a .45 and a 12 gauge will still sound like a 12 gauge.

These types of inserts have been around for a gazillion years, and would have been banned generations ago if they were contrary to law.
 
I have a 9mm/12 gauge adapter that is too long for pumps but works well in break opens. The secret to making them work well is finding the right orientation of the adapter and the barrel and barrels sights. Put a small mark of felt pen anywhere on the back of the adapter load it with a cartridge with the mark at the top of the chamber , fire it at a target 15 to 20 yards away. See where it hit, mark the spot and rotate the adapter 1/8 of a turn repete shooting. Keep doing this until you find the spot that hits repetedly where you aim then mark the top of the adapter with a more permanent mark. After that everytime you put it in that shotgun with the mark at the top you should know where your shot will go. Kind of neat to have a double that can shoot a rabbit at 20 yards or so with one barrel and git a bird on the wing with the other.
 
On most the whole adapter is extracted and the empty case is pushed out with a ramrod or your fingernail.They are mostly a one shot item, then remove and reload.

I use them for 3 gun speed drills at the range so i don't rip up the backstop with 12 guage.
