.22 conversions for 1911 .45

Currently, GSG makes a cheap conversion kit for around $ 250. Cheap and it works. Now the downside, don't expect it to last the lifetime of your frame. It uses a rather soft material, not sure if it is really ZAMAK (a base metal of zinc and alloy elements of aluminium, magnesium, and copper) which wears out as fast as the slide goes back and forward. Even with good lubrication, the harder frame will wear down your slide. Advantage Arms, Tactical Solutions, Kimber, Ceiner to name a few are the known kits in the 1911 market. The only problem is if you can find them here north of the border. Watch EE, you will be surprised on what might show up. And also take note, most .22 conversion kits are ammo picky.

Between buying the kit and any extra mags you're better off just buying a whole gun in .22 in the first place. You really don't save any significant money. Also if you search out kit conversions like this a lot of them need some minor modification to the parent lower end to make them work. Another good reason for simply buying a complete .22 in the first place.

A decent Buck Mark or Ruger from the EE will likely to be a lot less frustrating

I agree with others...dedicated 1911 .22 is better..a gsg can be had for less than the cost of some conversions...

I've got both Colt & Ceiner 1911 .22lr conversion units. Love 'em.

But the short answer, as it's already been stated, is just get a dedicated .22lr 1911 pistol. I have two GSG 1911 .22lr pistols. One plain jane early blued version & a later tan finished one. IMHO, the GSG 1911 .22lr pistol is a good bang for the buck.
