I am just curious what distances most .22 rifle shooters (open sights) use for target practice. 100 Yards seem a bit far to even see what you've hit with a spotting scope when shooting .22.

Just curious.

thanks

Depends how big your target is and what kind of open sights you use.

Most .22's come with big blocky sights that are maybe good for tin can's at 50 yards or so but peep sights are a bit better.

A lot depends on how good your eyesight is. One of the reason's why I prefer scopes for precision shooting unless I'm shooting fast or just plinking.

I used to use golf balls attached to string at 100 yards. It takes a lot of practice to hit a golf ball sized target with irons at that range but it's quite obvious when you hit it. The golf balls stand up to a couple of hits before they split.

Irons as in "open sights" I would assume.
I shoot at 100 and 200 with irons, but they are quality target sights, 1.6 MPA adjustable rear with front sight globe with inserts.
