I have a NEW HAVEN by Mossberg Model 453T 22LR. I am having trouble with getting this semi auto to fire all 8 or 9 rounds with out jambing. What happening is the emply shell that is ejecting gets caught by the "bolt" on its way bach to the closed position. I have tried better and super ammo and still no luck. Took it in to the gun guy in town and he tried and played and tinkered and the only way he could get it to fire through 2 full clips was after firing alot of ammo. He tried all kinds of ammo aswell and he said it started working well after it was warm....... so I guess I am looking to fix the problem rather than put the gun on my dash and turn on the defrost to hot on my way to the shoot!

I am thinking it is the magazine as I think the angle it feeds the next one in is off or the spring is to hard or something. If anyone has an answer or can suggest something to try or has an extra mag around I (I would love to have it anyways) that would be much appreciated. Also can I get a larger mag that fits this gun?

Thanks
Wes

Sounds like a "stovepipe"....:yingyang:

It sounds like stiff springs, but that would mean that once they begin to loosen, they generally will not "re-stiffen". If the "gun guy" didn't find an extractor-prblem, then it could very well have been a spring-stiffness issue. :)

He tried all kinds of ammo aswell and he said it started working well after it was warm.......

Sounds like some hyper-vel was used to ease-the-springs....

so I guess I am looking to fix the problem rather than put the gun on my dash and turn on the defrost to hot on my way to the shoot!

Probably not that heat-sensitive, as it seems more like an issue with the springs...redundant of me to say, I know, I know...

I am thinking it is the magazine as I think the angle it feeds the next one in is off or the spring is to hard or something.

That would be more of a FTF (failure-to-feed) issue [hey, I'm making the abbreviations here! :p] than it would be an FTE (failure-to-extract) issue. :yingyang:...

If anyone has an answer or can suggest something to try or has an extra mag around I (I would love to have it anyways) that would be much appreciated. Also can I get a larger mag that fits this gun?

Thanks
Wes

Hope some of the above helps....:D

You said you tried different types of ammo? try as many different kinds as possible. If it is a stiff spring, then a heavier bullet and a higher charge might help. But the only way to find out is to try. Go to your local ammo place and pick up a box of each types of .22 they have. Now this advice may be good, or it may be completely off, I am not an expert on ammo.
