Hey folks,
I have a line on old Savage lever in 22 HP, and am wondering how many have/had one.
This one is in pretty fine shape, take-down, tang sight.
It is quite a ways away, so cannot get a feel for it.
Any info, your feelings toward them would be kindly looked upon.

Thanks for looking, and you help!

Later....

been there, done it, have the shirt :p

draw backs... unless you wanna D&T it you are stuck with iron sights or low powered scopes that fit a Stith mount...another hard to find and expensive item...
bullets are .228...tough to find these days...

Ive got one and have lots of old dominion ammo for mine, it shoots great with the old factory ammo. Hornady makes bullets for it and they are.227 dia. Havent had much time to tinker with any hand loads yet. speer used to make .228 bullets for them but they are discontinued.

S&B still factory loads for the HP

They do, I sold a box @ the Saskatoon gunshow on the weekend

I still have Speer and Remington .228 bullets myself, as well as the required pile of Dominion ammo lol

I have had 2 M99 .22 Hi-Powers. They were a great groundhog/varmint gun. I carried mine deer hunting a couple of times but didn't get a shot.

The only problem I had was that the cases (Dominion) wouldn't take very many reloads before cracking at the base.

26 grs of 3031 with a 70 gr jacketed PSP is a deadly load.

I'll guess you were full length sizing, not neck sizing right?

Here's a photo I've posted previously but for those that are fond of the 99 Savage in 22 Savage Hi Power.

This lady, Mrs. Betty Wendle of the Barkerville area was well know for her exploits, hunting Grizzly with one.

I'm looking for a Savage 99 in 25-35 Winchester that I could work up some decent loads for that would
exceed .22 HP on heavier game. That said, the .22 HP did an admiral job on critters from here to Africa.
(At least on cats and plains game):)
