.22 hollow points?

I"m sure this has been done to death before, but here goes.
I "ve been shooting winchester wildcat solid bullets out of my 10/22 because it likes them(feeds/accurate).
I"m hoping to shoot some gophers shortly, and am starting to try some different hollow points.
How much does it matter? I know no-one can guarantee "bang flops" with a
.22 lr(I just bought a 17 hmr, before anyone points out the obvious), but how do solids compare to hollow points, and are they going to open up on a gopher anyway?
Any constructive advice, based on experience welcomed.

The go to choice for me is Federal AE22's in hp. They shoot well enough out of many of my 22's that I use them the most. When you can find a gun that will shoot winchester experts, they open up gophers like almost no other ammo. There are the Winchester 333's that are out now, and I'd almost bet they are the same ammo as the experts, only coppper washed. Like was said earlier, remington yellow jackets work very well too, but most rifles are not condusive to shooting them accurately. The bang flop you refer to, I know well, and you rarely get that with solid ammo. Stick with hps, they are more humane and usually cheaper. Get a bunch of different hp ammos and test them all in your gun, that way you will know what is the best choice for your hunting. Good luck. PS, I can't wait for gopher season too.

Holy smokers! There is not a brand of .22Lr that my 10/22 cannot cycle. I don't understand why some Rugers have problems with a certain brand or shape of bullet or propellant charge.
To answer the question: Gameshock.

The only time my 10/22 has jammed was when I fire the Wildcats or Yellow jackets using 3rd party mags like Ramline. With Ruger rotary mags, it never ever jams!!!
 
I tried a new 30 rd hotlips mag on saturday, and it fed flawlessly.
Thanks for all the input, but we"re getting away from the point. Is the consensus that hollow points make a difference and expand on gophers?
 
I found with mine that if you adjust the spring on the rotary clip it will function correctly. HP's will work on ground hogs but don't expect to see very many carcasses. They usually make it down when using a .22 . A .223 loaded with 40gr Vmax usually provides instant lights out.
 
cci quick shoks are what I use for hunting. They are a hyper velocity round so they shoot a bit flatter. The quick shok bullet is segmented and seems to expand rapidly and consistantly. They make nice holes in grouse and rabbits.
 
I don't have a problem with the mags, however I get a lot of spent casings that jam up the action before it closes. between 1 and 3 failures in a 10 round mag.

It's a virtually new 10/22, and it's always fed like ####. Sorry for the hijak.
 
Hollow points make a huge difference on impact. They will make a very satisfying WHAP sort of sound when they connect and do way way more damage than a solid.

Find the hottest rounds that your gun likes and buy LOTS then have fun!

Quick Shocks and Stingers are a no no in match chambers.
