Seeing as hare season is the only one left open in ontario I was thinking about trying for some hares in WMU 13/12.5 (season is open till Jun 16!)

I wouldl ove to use my 22 hornet if it was legal but the paragraph about which caliber of rifle is legal is a bit confusing? Paragtaph below

Firearms
In an area where there is an open season for deer, moose
or black bear, if you are the holder of a small game
licence you may not possess or use a rifle of greater
calibre or projectile power than a .22 calibre rim-fire rifle
chambered to .22 short, .22 long or .22 long rifle or shells
loaded with ball or with shot larger than No. 2 shot (or if
using non-toxic shot, you may not use steel shot larger
than triple BBB steel shot, or bismuth shot that is larger
than double BB bismuth shot), unless you possess a valid
licence to hunt deer, moose or black bear as the case may be.

Does this mean you can use say my 22 hornet as there is not a open season for deer, bear moose?

Guess I need to break down and call the MNR.

You can shoot whatever you want when there is no open season for bear, moose or deer, if you have those licenses during their open seasons you can use whatever you want to all year.

I see you mentioned the end date, some small game seasons say open all year but north of a certain line the small game license is not valid during the summer.
