22 hornet question?

I'm asking this for a freind since i have no experience in loading 22 hornet.He would like to know if you can load 55grain FMJ,or is it to heavy for that case capacity,any help would be appreciated thanks.

my speer manual lists a 52grain load. 55 will be no problem just make sure you use the appropriate load data. you will hit a weight limit based on the ability of your rifle to stabilize the bullets.
 
a lot of Hornets use a 1/14 twist, which should be sufficient to stabilize a 55gr spbt. Some hornets (most older & foreigh-made ones) use a 1/16th, which will probably not stabilize it. Another thing to watch out for is COAL. With a 55 gr spitzer, you may have to seat the bullet so far down in the case (in order that it functions in the magazine) that it significantly intrudes into the already-limited powder area. In any event, your velocities are likely going to be somewhere in the 2200-2400 fps area (just a guess.) Unless you have a really good reason for wanting to use a 55 grain bullet, I'd suggest you try something 45gr or less.
