Hi,

I am reloading 22 Hornet with Hornady 35 Gr. and 40 Gr. Bullets but I don't have any reload info for the powders I have. The Lee book don't mention them but an older book might.

The powders I have are as follows:

Win 680
IMR 4227
Herc 2400

I am to understand the Win 680 is the fastest (no longer available) with the IMR 4227 next followed by the Herc 2400 as the slowest.

Any reloading info for these grains would be appreciated. I would like to use up the powders I have so I don't need Little Gun yet. If you do response please indicate the velocity and MOL with the info as well.

Thanks,
Zig11

Everybody should have one or more manuals of their own.
From the 7th Hornady manual 35gr Vmax 2400 powder start load is 8.9gr - 10.6 gr
4227 " " 9.5gr - 11.3gr

40gr v max 2400 8.4 - 9.5
4227 9.7 - 11.3
There you go
FS

Why don't you go to the Hodgdon site?
This should get you there.

Of the powders you list, I would prefer H4227 to 2400, but either should work.
If you buy new powder, Hodgdon's LilGun is almost like it was designed for the Hornet.

+1 on the Hodgdon Website; there's LOTS of data there. H110 is supposed to be another good .22 Hornet powder.

There seems to be quite a bit of overlap in powder selection between magnum revolvers and smallbore centrefire rifles with small capacity cases. I think 2400 was actually originally made for the .22 Hornet.

"...Herc 2400..." If the can says Dupont Hercules on it, the powder is very old. Dupont has been out of the gun powder business for eons. Might or might not still work.
Hercules is now Alliant.
There's 33(that'll do for a 35 grain bullet) and 40 grain .22 Hornet 2400 data on Alliant's site.
IMR4227 is slower than Alliant 2400. Win 680 is slower than either.

Load exactly 10 grains of 2400 and go up or down from there. The hornet is very fussy because of the small case capacity. It took me 18 different loads to get mine to shoot the way I wanted it to.

Thanks for the response people.

What I was looking for was reload data for the specific powders that I have.

I thought the fastest powder was the WIN 680. The LEE book I got lists it as the highest velocity, which bring me to a whole new thinking. Does slower powder give you higher velocity? I did read the LEE loading manual but I may have been having an ADD moment at this part of it. Just wanted to use up my 2 1/2 lbs of powder before going out and buying more. I have

Herc 2400
IMR 4227
and Win 680 which is not made anymore

12 grains of W680 lite by cci400 primer in a winchester case pushing a 40 grain Sierra HP equals 1 inch groups at 100 yds for me. YMMV

A bunch of us did give you info on the powders you had listed.

That's right, we did.
Why would he post this,

What I was looking for was reload data for the specific powders that I have.

Not much incentive to help people out, is it?

Thats right you did to which I said Thanks.

The reason I stated your quote is I was told by Goble's in London that just because the numbers are the same do not assume the powders are the same EX. H 4227 and IMR 4227 apparently are not the same. I am lead to believe this is true with other powders 680 Lite and Win 680 I don't believe are the same. Hence the reason I said specific powders.

"Not much incentive to help people out, is it?"

Was this statement necessary? If I did not give you enough incentive you need not response with anything.

Good Day Gentlemen and Thank You for your input.
