I'm thinking about finding a 22 Hornet rifle as a step up from the .22. Want something small, but bigger then the .22.

what do you think about the 22 Hornet?

My goal is to get a .22 all the way to a .308. Hopefully some stuff in between. You know have a little bit of everything.

I wanted a Hornet, and ended up tripping over a deal on a Sako in .223.

No regrets buying that. Brass and ammo is available everywhere, and if you don't want screaming performance, you can load down to Hornet ballistics for a quieter round.

I might still get a Hornet, but I am not actively looking.

Factory Hornet ammo is expensive, more so than .223, but if you reload it's cheap.

The new Remington .17 Fireball will be available in their less expensive 700 SPS model. Who knows when it'll hit Canada?

What grain matches the hornet in .223? Can u buy that load? or do u have to load it yourself?

You would have to load it yourself.

If you are going to reload, I would suggest starting with a decent reloading manual from any of the major companies (Hornady, Speer, RCBS, etc). Every one of them will have a wide selection of loads, suitable for different purposes.

Most of the places that sell reloading stuff also sell or can get the "load" books for a specific cartridge, that cover just one caliber, but lots of variations.

Lots of load info online, too, if you start by looking up the bullet weights and velocities of various hornet loads, then compare .223 loads to find the ones that push the bullets the same velocity or at least similar.

Hornet

Hi, I have a Browning Micro Hunter in 22 Hornet. It is one of my many favorites. Light weight, fun to shoot and I can do nickel size patterns at 100 yards using factory ammo. Agreed the factory ammo is more than the .223, but the Hornet is a nice quiet rifle compated to the .223

I shoot it more the Hornet more than my .223

Arch:)

223 is loud as hell compared to the hornet. you may wish to look into a .221 fireball as well, its a in between a hornet and a .222.

for the money, the savage model 40 hornet is tough to beat.

i have a browning micro 22 hornet as well and i like it alot, but i reload for it, my father has a 221 fireball which is nice as well and a little more punch to it, i'm planning on getting a savage model 40 in the near future.
