I am reloading a 22 hornet and having trouble wondering what powder to use.
i have tried imr 4198 but after firing one bullet with 10. grains i find that there is still some powder in the barrel. it says to use 10.5 grains or 11. grains but the powder is right to the neck.
I am wondering what if it is ok to push the powder down when seating the bullet?
i want to try another powder but dont know which one

thanks

My recomendation is Lil' Gun its a hodgeson's powder, it will give you more velocity with less pressure and more room in the case. Compressed charges are ok and almost the norm with a hornet. Give Lil' Gun a try you won't regret it.

4198's way too slow.

lil-gun is an excellent choice. I've also been meaning on trying H4227 as it's got about the right burn rate, and is one of the so-called 'extreme' powders that are supposed to be more temperature stable. lil-gun and 110 are all over the map as the temperature changes

Another vote for lil'gun

I had noticed so odd stuff this year as it cooled off, but I am not sure I could blame it on the powder or over crimping. 13 grains under a 50 grain head in my k-hornet went from normal to frequent but not always massive over pressures.

has anyone tried w296?

296 = H110

It works OK. Very VERY close to lil-gun in overall performance, though it behaves somewhat differently (higher pressures)

I have anothe rproblem wtih imr4198 powder
it leaves un burnt powder inside the barrel
any one know why?
will it hurt the barrel?

thanks

There is also Accurate Arms AA1680 which is similar to the discontinued W680 that some Hornets really liked. It is about the same burning speed as Lil'Gun
