Hey Cat 1. I was at the local gun store today and Saw the Savage Model 40. It looks way nicer in person then on their web site. Pretty sweet price too. The one at the store was with an Accutrigger and I was told that there was a mistake and that you can't get accutrigger for the model 40 22 hornet so that rifle they have is special. Is this true? I know you said that your is not up to its accuracy potential but how far off is it? The price was $515, what do you sell it for?

The .22 Hornet is a sweetie of a little cartridge, that's for sure. But even better is the .221 Fireball; more performance, easier to load, more versatile, rimless, and still an ultra tiny little round. It's basically a better Hornet. By a long shot. But, the Hornet is still ever so slightly quieter, and potentially cuter to look at. Since you're reloading, consider the K-Hornet if stuck on a Hornet. I gotta be honest, I didn't read this thread very thoroughly somebody has likely gone over, but I'll do it just incase. The K-Hornet is an improved version that gains you everything and cost you nothing (other than the smithing); you can still shoot factory .22 Hornet due to the rim (while fireforming brass ) and it gives more velocity in your reloads as well as longer case life and much easier loading.

Is there anyone who likes the cartridge just as it is? Is it that hard to reload and not as accureate as hoped that rechambering is necessary?

Thousands have shot the Hornet and many many still do. Just not very 'modern' that's all. Maybe the whole appeal.
yes, some throats were cut long and accuracy was poor but that is easily solved. New components make this a real nice accurate case but brass life will be short if you try and raise the performance from stock.
Why do so many companies still build Hornets? Got to be liked by some...
