22 hp

Not so much now, but fifty years ago there were more than a few 22 Hi Powers being used up here for everything from gophers to grizzlies.

Today, hunting any big game must be using nothing smaller than .243 diameter bullets. Silly, because that means you could use a 25-20, but not a 22 Hi Power.

It’s tough living on the North. ;)

in france some used the 22-250 for chamois roe deer and even red deer or wild boar but i never tried myself as i always believed in bigger caliber but it worked for them.

Know a couple of Vancouver Islanders who hunt black tails with the 22-250, might be the perfect chambering for that. Bet the 22 hp would be too.

The 22-250 flattens Deer like they were hit by lightning and I know a guy that killed a Grizzly with one around 1990.

22 calibers with the right bullet construction, can be very reliable killers on medium sized game like deer. Most 22 cal bullets however aren't very suitable for this task since the majority of them are designed for varmints. A 70gr soft point @ 2800 fps doesn't leave much margin for error in shot placement or bullet performance
