A friend of mine brought the magazine from his No. 4 LE to me to "fix." The magazine won't hold the rounds in place. is his complaint.

On inspecting this mag, I noticed differences as well as a "22" stamping on the side. The rear lips for holding the rounds are about 30 thousands wider than a regular magazine.

My question to all is, Is this a magazine from a No.7 that some previous owner has put a .303 follower in to?

I would silver solder ears onto the front "lips" so it would hold the rounds in place, but if it is from a No. 7, I would sooner make a trade for a regular magazine.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Here are some pictures:

I am sure that will be easy to trade for a 303 no4 mag. If i didnt just sell my extra one i would be pming you instead of posting this. I would not solder on that mag.

It is a No. 7 magazine case with a .303 follower unit. Don't alter it. Even without the single shot .22 platform, the casing is worth more than a .303 magazine.
The rifles were often used with the .22 platform removed - fired cases just dropped into the shell.

Even without the single shot .22 platform, the casing is worth more than a .303 magazine.

After putting this magazines on the EE with a price that reflected this opinion, a few have been encouraged to PM me to let me know I might be "out of line" to ask for a slight cash supplement in addition to a trade.

It might be me, but when I see a deal I'm not interested in, I move along and mind my own business.

well then they must be out of their minds.

a 22 mag body is worth a brand new out of the wrapper No4 303 mag any day of the week.

I don't think any of the real enfield experts will disagree with that statement in an open forum. ;)

I note that a member has a .22 follower/platform unit in the EE for $30. Would go nicely with the casing.

It wasn't for sale for very long. I'm hoping the fellow who did get my case was the one who purchased it.

I would have sprung for it myself had it not been sold.
