22 Long Rifle at 500 Yards

I call bull####... not statistically possible... and using a tasco scope and federals to boot...

at 100 yards a .22lr has almost 13 inches of drop.... was he aiming at the sun?

I don't know if 500 yards is impossible (for me, sure) but I'm curious on the size of the gong. I know 200 meters is very doable with between 48-60" drop IIRC, it's been awhile, and 300 meters was ballpark 10.5-13 feet.

Imagine the bullet's trajectory in your mind's eye and then place your sight so as to ensure the bullet drops on target. A rifle is, in many ways, just like a garden hose.

right... but my garden hose can only shoot water 20 yards... no matter how high I point it... eventually the water comes down and lands on my head....

500 yards is a long ways out there with the 22 lr. I was shooting 200 yards with my 22 lr this spring using the snow as reference on where the bullets hit and the lift at the end of the barrel was high for 200. Now 500, I don’t know...

My personal best is a 8 inch square plate at 225 yards using a Mark XXII with Green Tags and a Leupold VX-II 3x9x40. Zero wind with a 50% hit rate...

I have scrutinized this video and associated images and I honestly believe they are true... I figure about 40 feet of drop at this distance... More like "lobbing" bullets...

Pfft, that's nothing. When I was in Asscrackistan, we were hitting Taliboners at 2800 metres with our 10.5 inch C8's all day long. Quite boring actually, as it wasnt much of a challenge. I'd take the shot, take a wizz, and then after I was done, look through the spotting scope and watch my bullet hit them in the left eye. I always aim for the left eye. Its sort of my marker, ya know what I mean.

Hey... maybe they mad the shot... but look.... you are talking your best as 40% of the distance with a much better load and a much better rifle, scope combo...

I remember reading a story on here posted by I guy that seemed quite adimant that he witnesed an Indian in a canoe fire 11 rounds out of his pump action 22lr with a 4 power scope put 9 rounds into a moose's vitals at 900 some odd yards so this video is baby sh#t.

Need aprox 102moa to get to 500 yards with FGMM 40gr at 1080 fps. Need a very nice scope with a huge moa mount to get that shot without any holdover. My 10/22 scope has a total of 132moa of adjustment but only 55moa of "up" as is. Can get to 325 yards with no hold over. Was shooting coke cans (355ml) at 300 yards first day out;) You should try it before making a judgement on the posibilities...

I have shot 4" groups at 200yds with my CIL/Anschutz 310 and Eley green box ammo, hitting your gong should be no trouble off a decent rest under good conditions.

At 500 yards, 40 feet of drop is around 96MOA. That is a lot, but not unmanageable with a decent scope that has lots of elevation adjustment and a base that adds 20-30MOA or more. If it has a mildot reticle that helps with the holdover as well.

If your .22lr rifle is zeroed at 100 yards, there is an additional 88MOA of drop to get it out to 500 (assuming 1275fps at the muzzle, .125 BC with 36gr projectile). This is a significant amount of drop, but is definitely doable if holding over with a Mil-Dot scope (also assuming it is bottomed out for vertical adjustment already). I would also assume that the gong is at least 24" in diameter.

You are all forgetting about the inherant limitations of the round... theya rent loaded to do that.... the actual bullets aren't even cast that precisely... not to mention this guy calims to be shooting federals?...
