Just bought some CCI "ratshot".
A few questions:
How does it shoot in a pistol or rifle?
What is the effective range for pigeons (real ones)?
Can it be used inside the barn without blowing out the slate roof?
How does it differ from the Winchester brand with crimped ends?

Absolutely, entirely, and utterly useless. :) There is no effective range on pigeons, I'm not joking when I say the feathers stop the pellets, I'm serious, even from 5 yards. A 1 yard head shot might kill a pigeon, but it'd more than likely maim it and it'd die slowly. I shot a young starling from 2-3 yards with them, took multiple shots, like 5 I believe, and only died after an aweful flap.

I've had pretty good success with .22 "shotshells" in sheds or other places where you wouldn't want holes. They seemed to do the trick with sparrows at about 5 yards (overhead in the rafters).

I've used them on pigeons in the range hut rafters. Took two to dispatch the latest feathered rat. Both shots were from ~1 yard. Ya, they suck for range, but the good thing was no holes in the roof :D .

How does it differ from the Winchester brand with crimped ends? You have to be more careful loading the CCI ones. Winchester will feed normally from a mag, the CCI plastic cup may hang or get damaged during chambering.

I did a test on cardboard with both a pistol and rifle. Not much difference. I would say 10' is the maximum range. Shoot once to disable then close up to kill.

I've killed several mice with this load - range must be spitting close for it to be effective. I also killed a trapped squirrel, but it was practically contact range to the head. I've had better luck with the CCI loads than with the crimped Winchester loads, and the .22 Mag version is slightly better as it holds more pellets.

If you need to dispatch some mice or rats in your house or whatever just get a pellet gun. I've killed many mice with my webley hurricane.

believe it or not, it works best out of a SMOOTH BORE- or a nearly worn-out 22- the less rifling the better- your regular 22 is too GOOD for it

I'd try some CB longs, they work on magpies out to 15 yards, and may not be too hard on the roof... and unlike CB shorts they will cycle through repeaters, and manual cycle through a semi action...
