22 LR Tracer Rounds

Is there anywhere in Canada that sell these 22 lr Tracer rounds? can bring them into Canada ..or are they even legal to have in Canada ??? any input?

Last update we remember was: tracers are not prohibited by the Firearms Act, but they are controlled as explosives. If you can get your controlled goods paperwork, you might be okay.

The Explosives Regulations are changing. I have yet to confirm with ERD but it looks like this may possibly be a non issue now.

NRCan decided tracers are evil and cannot be imported, long ago. That'd be civil servants making law by regulation. However, there's no law that says they're illegal.

I contacted NRCan and they said they would issue permits for 22LR tracer ammunition for personal or resale use IF a sample could be supplied for their testing.

Would you mind elaborating? I can see that maybe the tracing compounds can burn hotter then the gases pushing the bullet but most tracers only start burning at 50-100m so that can't be the reason.

So we just need to get a retailer on board to import, get some samples, and we're off to the races?

In a perfect world yes, however if their testing is anything like the rcmp it will be step 1 in a 2 year process. Convincing an American company that doesn't currently export, to export ammunition, may also prove difficult.
