My old browning sa22 is having an issue..the mag tube spring is no longer being retained by the crimp on the tube. I tried to punch in the crimp with a hammer and a punch..think I made it worse somehow.

I’m going to have to cut 1/4 inch off and somehow crimp it. What tools do you think would make a nice crimp?
Was thinking of using a dulled tubing cutter. Was wondering if anyone had any other ideas…

Yes I can get a new tube from the states, issue is shipping time and potential hold ups at the border,
This is my favourite small game gun and we are just a couple weeks away from season opener..

"tried to punch in the crimp with hammer and punch" - just guessing that you "stretched" (thinned) the metal and made it bigger?? I never tried, but would expect same thing, maybe, with a tubing cutter? Playing here with various crimping tools - almost all go completely around or at least have rear side support - to squish the thing smaller, without thinning it??

Have something with a slightly smaller I-D, like a nut ? Gently drive the tube down into that opening ? That might restore a sort of crimp ??
OR gently roll the end of the tube on a smooth steel surface - would need a good 'feel' for the roll ?

For those curious…I used a dulled tubing cutter, gave a nice crimp. Did this crimp about 1/8th of an inch past the old crimp, cut at the old crimp. Put tube in a drill, spun the inner and outer in a deburring tool.
Function tested, worked perfect
