Hey 22 mag people. I am just ramping up for gopher season and am wondering what your choice of bullet weight is?

Rifle is a CZ american. I have tried 40 & 30 gr but trajectory is slightly different between the two.

Preferences? (Esp down range, on critters..)

Most of the 30 grain bullets are very explosive, shoot a bit flatter and have a little more velocity at closer ranges. The 40 and 45 grain generally hold together better, have less velocity and have a little more drop at longer ranges, but the heavier bullets are less effected by wind and have more energy at every range over the lighter bullets. I started using the lighter bullets but moved quickly to the heavier weights. The heavier bullets are generally less expensive also. CCI maxi mag 40gr hollow points seem to shoot best from my rifle. The ammunition that shoots best for you should be the number one deciding factor.

I would focus on the most accurate for your rifle and then figure out your trajectory for said ammo. Doesn't matter how fast or explosive if you cant hit it.
Scott....
