22 Mag???

I tried that once with an old Favorite action. It split the rims of the 22 mag cases and spit in my face a little.

Turns out that the bore diameter is .224 for a 22 mag and .223 for a regular 22lr. and thats enough to make a difference. Get a different barrel and it shouldn't be a problem though I don't think. Some of the others here might be able to tell you just what sort of pressures those actions will stand up to. Some were originally made as 25 or 32 calibre rimfires as well.

22 mag

I miked a 22 mag winchester and it was .223. A 22 Lr remington was .223. The two cooey barrels are .222 and the other .223. Does this sound right and if so there should be no extra pressure? I have a 22 hornet brno with a .223 and shoot .224 and there does not seem to be a problem. Anyone else with an opinion on a rechamber for a cooey or a stevens favorite?

I've seen a few of them...my brother had one done a few years ago...a single shot Lakefield...no problem with it.

My Ruger Single Six revolver has two cylinders in 22LR and 22Mag....same barrel....

"...the bore diameter is .224 for a 22 mag..." Yep. However, it's not a pressure issue. It's a bore diameter and chamber area dimension thing. Plus the cost. .22 mag ammo is considerably more expensive.
If you want a bit more punch than a regular .22lr, buy a box of each hyper-velocity .22's(Stingers, Yellow Jackets, et al) and see which brand shoots best out of your rifle.

22 mag

Thanks for the info.

I have roughing and finishing 22 mad reamers and thought I could pick up an old favorite with a bad barell and put on one of the cooey barells and re chamber.

The main problem with re-chambering Cooey .22`s to .22 mag is that there is too little bolt travel or too short a ejection port to eject rounds. Most won`t eject unfired rounds and some don`t even clear the spent brass. We`ve re-chambered quite a few other .22`s such as CIL`s made by Anschutz. Most of them are suitable because of the longer ejection port.
