I'm interested in getting a .17HMR, or similar, semi-auto. Can any one out there school me on;

1. do they make these in a tactical platform, like an XCR or even an AR ?

2. If so, do these rimfires have any restictions like centerfires ? ( mag size etc).

I have pistols, but, dont really want to get back into AR-15 restricteds right now. Although, I thought a .17 HMR, or .22 Magnum, in a "modern sporting" configuration would be fun for varmits, targets, something light to pack into the bush, and just plain screwing around with.

I did read in something recently in Guns n' Ammo that rimfires in those configs haven't really done well due is partly due to the widespread accessability of the AR .223 platform south of the border and perhaps also some engineering issues?

thanks for looking

There were a ton of problems with 17 HMR semi autos. Bad enough that ammo manufacturers issued warnings against using the ammo in semi-autos. I couldn't even tell you if anyone is even offering a semi auto chambered in 17HMR right now...

22 wmr... not knowledgable on that. Someone else will have to fill you in.

There were Remington 597's in 22 wmr in tactical versions. That would have been ideal for 3 gun except for the power factor.

Also google Alexander Arms. They have an upper in 17hmr as well as a complete rifle, but it would be restricted. :(

Also, no idea if they made their way into Canada. But it would be sweet if they did.

I have a Volquartson in 17 HMR, they are not cheap and take a year to get. Ordered it through Milarm in Edmonton.
