.22 magnum chamber (rim depth)

I've recently acquired a Ruger Single Six.
It seems the area for the rim on the Magnum cylinder weren't bored deep enough. It binds only when the cylinder is loaded (this was confirmed with the cylinder removed and ammo inserted).
I only need to take them down an extra 2 - 3 thou (best guess).
Is there a special tool for this, or can I use a standard end mill?

i would try a diff brand of ammo first. there may be a brand your gun doesnt like.
worth a shot, before any machineing gets done

Are both cylinders numbered to the gun? If the mag cylinder is from a later new style in an old style single six, this can sometimes be an issue. Try other ammo of course, but if both cylinders aren't electropenciled with the last three numbers of the revolver, chances are it wasn't fit to the revolver.

I think you're on to something here.
Tried two different varieties of Winchester (three if you include the first stuff I bought) and they all protrude a couple of thou.
Remington and CCI are both flush.
Now, that said, would it be that unwise of me to take the recess for the rim down a couple of extra thou? I'd hate to have it so ammo sensitive.

The only way to tell if your cylinder to breechface is correct/incorrect is with a set of go no-go gauage. In order to deepen your chamber you need the correct chamber reamer as well as the gauage to determine correct depth. As these tools are expensive, your best bet is to take the gun to a good pistolsmith.

Brought in in tonight.
Rims were showing to be protruding about 6-7 thou.
Should have 'er fixed up by next week.
