So I've made 2 additions to my Long gun collection and I'm thinking it's time I add something in rim fire as I only have a single .22 LR (lever gun) in my collection. I tried a Bolt .22LR a while back but didn't like the gun (not much of a bolt guy) and started looking around. Noticed there are not really any newly designed guns chambered for the .22 mag. Am I just blind or is the .17 HMR quickly replacing the .22 Mag as the Magnum Rim Fire Round? Is the .17 that much better then the .22 Mag? I ask since it shares the same brass just is a smaller diameter bullet. I kind of had my heart set on getting a .22 mag but looking around the options seem to be lever guns or older designed repeater rifles nothing in single shots and I have me a lever and I tried me a repeater. Then again I might just be looking at the wrong sites but I noticed even here it's all .22 LR's and .17 Mach 2 and HMR's....

.22 mag is around, I find I have to buy in large quantity's when it is available however.
I have a bunch of Hornady 30gr V-max right now that really rocks and rolls.

I'm a .22 mag fan. It does seem that ammo is not as readily available as the .17, mind you the past year it seems even the good .17 stuff was a little 'sparce' as well. They both make chunks.... but the .22mag in my experience bucks wind better.

Have shot both quite a bit (wmr hmr ) and i like 22 mag more for gophers. my hmr is nice and shoots flat too about 170 yrds but any wind will throw it way off . At 100 yards 20kmh wind 6 inches of drift with the mag about 2 . hmr is flat to about 150 and wmr is flat too about 100 after that both drop fast. there is new wmr ammo that is quite a bit hotter but i havent tried any yet . I dont think wmr is goning anywhere anytime soon except into gophers.

What kind of firearm were you looking for?

Well I like single shots so I'd like to find something in a single shot. My gun safe has only 3 repeaters that I own in it. 2 levers (.308 Win and .22 LR) and 1 pump (12 Gauge BPS) I use them for specific game where you need more then 1 round (shotgun and .22) otherwise everything else in hinged single or multi-barreled or my brothers on loan. I haven't found anything in Single shot magnum so I can't say what I might want everything has been .22 LR or .17 HM2 or HMR. Reason I asked if the .22 mag is a dying caliber. Anyone know of any guns I should look at?

Dont think theres much in Single shot otherr than maybe New England Firearms.

Basically all other Manufacturers make a 22 WMR repeater.

Remington, CZ, Savage, Marlin, Sako, Browning, Anschutz, Cooper etc.

I think you have answered your own question, about a dying caliber.
