Just got a nice Marlin model 782 in .22 mag with a 4power scope. Never had a .22 mag before. Whats the normal sight in zero for this calacre and what is the max range for disposing of critters (Groundhog/coons/foxes) ?

You wont regret it!

Hey Grouser - you wont regret buying the Marlin - I have bought 2 so far - one for my dad and just recently got one off Sniper through the EE - they are fantastic guns - damned accurate ( I do suggest a good scope that will handle the whack from the 22 mag), but great for ground hogs, grouse, coons, and bunnies (not the playboy ones LOL!)
Do you have a TSC near you? They had 22 mag on sale for $7.95 box of 250 rounds (unreal - I know). the winchester white box stuff is good, but the Rem accutips are just awesome!
Let me know how yours does

whaaaat????!?!?!? 7.95 for a box of 250?!? i dont know what tsc is, but damn, if there was one in town, i'd buy many cases and get a marlin .22wmr.

"...dont know what tsc is..." Tractor Supply Co. Most of 'em don't carry any shooting stuff either.
On-line ballistics tables for .22 rimfires are crappy. Nothing like those for centre fire cartridges. They mostly just give MV and energy with little or no trajectories. The .22 mag loses velocity and energy quickly past 150 yards. However, depending on the brand of ammo and the bullet weight, sight in 1" at 75 yards to be on at 100 yards with CCI 40 grain bullets.
