Playing around with an old Savage 99 in 22HP, making brass from 25-35. I have some Speer .228 and Hornady .227 both 70gr. Neither is giving much for accuracy. Bore has seen better days, but really not that bad. Bullets are not key holing. So far I've only tried IMR 3031
Ken Waters did extensive experimenting with these but I can't find his data anywhere.
Some claim to have good results shooting .224 in them. I'm going to try some light hornet 45 gr bullets to see what happens, maybe they are thin enough to obturate a bit. I have another idea...if there is such a thing as a hollow base .224 that might expand better. I'm also thinking about making a swaging die that will bump .224 up to .228
Not a lot of data available, but the 219 Zipper is only slightly less case capacity, so data for it should be a starting point.
I'd be interested in any other's experience.

There were some 55 grain 0.228 bullets (Buffalo Arms) available from dealers here in Canada, I've found them to shoot better than the 70 grain pills.

The Speer 70gr should shoot ,the Hornady is too long and tips.Try some 60gr semi pointed or RN in .224 Ken Waters had good luck with them.Lots of data out there Old Hornady book etc

I’ve loaded up some .224 55 grain bullets in my BRNO ZH305 5.6x52r. I bought an extra set of 22-250 dies in order to use the expander stem to get the correct neck tension. Accuracy was as good as I got with the Buffalo bullets in .228.

Norma factory in 5.6x52r still takes the accuracy so far in my combo gun.

I can find my data if you’d like. Just PM me.

Swaging die. Is that something available? Or would you make it your self?

I don't know if I want to run .224 down the barrel. I think it would wear out the rifling quickly. .but 228 are hard to find.
