Howdy,

So I have taken up CAS at the local range. Fun times :). Shot a clean match this weekend but still ended up in tue bottom 1/3. Not looking to come in first but I think I can do better with more practice. Thing is the 45 Colt Winchester 1873 I have is a pig on ammo.

Anyone have any recommendations on a 22lr practice rifle? My daughter has an Evil Roy Henry I like but the stock is too short, the lever is too big, and she would kick my arse if I took her gun:).

Uberti makes a 1866 Winchester rifle and carbine in 22lr.I have the carbine version and it s great.Prophet river has an1866 sporting rifle in 22mag in stock

If you aren't already reloading, spend the money on getting set up for that. Then the cost of refilling .45 Colt comes down a LOT closer to the price of commercial .22 LR than to the cost of commercial .45 Colt. And now you can practice with your match rifle!

I already reload. I actually cast my own bullets and abox of my 45s are about the same as a box of half decent 22s. Thing is I have 2 kids that are into shooting too. I want to just save some time, not necessarily money, by using the 22 for practice.

When I practice with a rifle for speed I use the Henry Frontier in 22 WMR. But most of the time I use my actual CAS guns.

Watch Longhunter's videos on YouTube on how to practice. Most of it is drawing and getting one shot on your most uncomfortable target to acquire and reholstering.

Sale with rifle. Picking up rifle and getting first round on target.

If I combine his techniques with the 22 magnum for speed it seems to help.

The loads are downloaded already. I want a gun that saves me the time of smelting, casting, sizing, and loading any load, not just 45. I plan to still practice with the 45, but would like the 22 as well.

Browning BL?? Haven't used one but they're gorgeous

The BL-22 is an excellent rifle, however if they are trying to replicate their 1873 match gun it would be a poor choice. The only loading option is still to remove the entire tube and drop rounds down the front, on top of that, the brisk short-throw lever is much unlike most other lever-actions on the market right now - not good when transitioning between it and the smooth toggle-link of a '73 Winchester action

Well I was on the OSASF website and there was a Uberti Silverboy NIB for sale. Price was really good and the gent selling it was great. Actually a member here as well. For the cost, I plan to swap the sights out with something more resembling my 1873 and cast some lead to make a weight to get it closer to the 1873 weight and balance.
