Posting this here since it's AR platform specific.

I've got a Chiappa .22 upper mounted on a Norc M4 lower. The fit is snug, with no discernible play. No apparent flex in the barrel either. The upper is accurate and cycles well. The issue is this:

If the gun is zeroed at 25 yds from a rest (fore end resting on sandbag), shots fired offhand, or with only the magazine resting on the bench, consistently group about 5" low.

I've tried this with three different red dot sights, which seems to eliminate a problem with the optics. Also had a friend who is a very good shot try this and he got the same results. There is no such POI/POA change when the Norc .223 upper is in place, only with the .22.

I wrote Chiappa about this, but of course received no reply.

I'm stumped. Anybody have any ideas?

Could be 3 things.
  1. Did you try a riser for your red dot?
  2. Did you try moving the optics into different postions of the rail?
  3. Is your red dots that you were trying parrelax free?
*Sorry for the spelling still hung over from a wedding last night.*

It's barrel harmonics.

Shoot your group from the bench without supporting or even touching the forend or barrel.

I've noted shifts in MPI due to this many times.
